Next year we will be selling again and would like to, if possible, make a provisional booking for 3 nights. Thurs, Fri & Sat. I know the price might change as it is next year but please make a note. I will be there.

Thank you so much for allowing us to experience the beauty of the place.

Japie & Sandra,
'n Mens - *enige mens*! ♥

Tucked away in the beautiful mountains of McGregor, lies a little gem called ‘Onverwacht’..
Of course South Africans will know that this means ‘Unexpected’, which is exactly how we felt as we drew closer to this unknown special place. We had no idea what to expect and were greatly surprised to find this little peace of heaven located right on top of the ‘Boesmanskloof Valley’. The views are simply breathtaking. Huge mountain faces staring back out of the valley, that did, admittedly, feel surreal, if not slightly intimidating! What a magical feeling to be faced with nature so close and so powerful. The endless valley stretches all the way to Greyton showing off a spectacular scene of small valleys and mountain tops. The mountains are covered with miles and miles of indigenous Fynbos, including Pincushions, Sewe Jaartjies, Proteas and Catspaws. The richness of the Fynbos is very special indeed. The bungalows were also a pleasant surprise with loads of space; beds, a fireplace and a characteristic stone table and benches in the ’dining area’. It was a novel and much needed experience to have no electricity. Our gas lamps, hot water, fridge and braai area were all we needed to feel very comfortable and at peace within this incredibly special part of the world! We will definitely be returning to this magical, peaceful, special place very soon!! Thank you to our very attentive and warm hosts Sandra and Japie Oosthuizen who made sure we had everything we needed everyday for our extended stay! You gave us a very special experience and we can’t wait for the next time!

Alles was net perfek!.Ons Golden Retriever, Lancer het hom gate uitgeniet.Hy was vol smiles die hele tyd.

Julle plekkie is net waarvan ek so baie hou!

Good day Sandra/Japie
We just want to let you know that we had an awesome week-end. It was fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of it. We went to bed at about 9 o’clock in the evening, something we never do at home. All the trails that we walked was good and I feel so good today and well rest.
Thank you very much for your hospitality. We are planning on coming again the end of April and we want to bring the kids with. I will confirm the exact dates with you later.
Your place is really beautiful and we had a lot of fun. I love all the little “ornaments” that were around the place - it gave so much character to the place. Things that we normally see as junk and would through away, gave character to the place. I just stood in awe when I looked at the mountains and realised again how great and big our God is.
Thanks again and you will hear from me very soon.
Keep well and my God bless you and your business.
Regards
Cyril & Esme

A Place to See

A short piece on our visit to Onverwacht outside McGregor.

This past weekend we went down to McGregor and stayed overnight at the most beautiful place in the mountains. If you ever want to get away from the city and all of the trappings of everyday life this is the place to go. It’s a place where the peace and quiet folds around you and the real world seems far away.
Actually when you are there the real world is far away. At Robertson on the R62 you turn away to McGregor and from there you travel up a gravel road for about 15 kilometers to Onverwacht. Japie and Sandra Oosthuizen, the owners sent me a map, so the place was easy to find. I drive an old box shape 1300 Nissan and had no trouble getting there. It’s a long uphill climb, but the view is worth the trip.

At the bungalows itself you find a quiet and beauty you find only in the mountains. The Oosthuizens are still adding electricity but once we settled in and turned on the gas for a cup of coffee we did not even miss our modern electrical lifestyle we left at home. With a cup of hot coffee in hand we sat ourselves down at one of the viewpoints and just enjoyed.
In the bungalow there is a book telling the story of this family owned business, showing how it grew from an Idea to be where it is now. I envy the Oosthuizens, because this is one of the most beautiful places I saw in a while.

Dear Sandra & Japie

Firstly, thank you so much for the wonderful accommodation in the most beautiful setting! We absolutely loved it! Thank you, too, for doing our shopping for us - it was FANTASTIC to get there after a long, hot walk and to have a COLD drink, and wonderful food that we didn't have to carry. Then we must thank you so very much for being willing to help us out with transport back to Greyton. The fires got worse and we could never have walked back. Temperatures were up to 40degrees!  The younger guys had a great time in McGregor while they waited for us to get back with the Combi. Unfortunately it was a much longer wait than anticipated because I had a tyre blow out on the brief stretch of the N2 after Riviersonderend when travelling back to McGregor (thank the Lord that I managed to pull over safely to the side of the road). The tyre was not repairable. I was on my own, so I phoned my husband who was already an hour away back to Cape Town, but he turned back. Thank the Lord too that I kept safe by the side of the road. My husband then took the Combi from there and we are all safely back in CT. My sister, Carol Martin, who says she is on facebook with you, said that you were praying for us hikers - thank you, the prayers were answered and we are all safe.
